McGuinness Says Work of Attic House Longford Could be Model for Other Communities

April 30, 2019 July 24, 2019 Mairead McGuinness569 views

On a visit to the Attic House in Longford this morning (Tuesday 30th April), Mairead McGuinness MEP praised the work of the board and volunteers who have invested in what she described as “an incredible space for young people and for community activities”.

The facility provides both outdoor and indoor recreation opportunities for young people in the Longford and the wider region.

“It has been built on the core strength of volunteer spirit, which is to be commended,” she said.

“Their work with young people is a really positive story and I commend the efforts of the board and local community for having the foresight to purchase the property, the vision to refurbish it and the energy to keep going against all the odds.”

The MEP said she will be writing to Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Katherine Zappone about the project. “I will be asking her to visit this house and to use the experience of on the ground youth work in Longford to bring similar approaches countrywide,” she said.

“It’s important that we listen to the voice of experience on the ground.”

In my area of financial services, there are still too few women in executive and decision-making roles.
