Vice-President Of The European Parliament Visits Gartan National School
Mairead McGuinness Fine Gael MEP for Donegal and first Vice-President of the European Parliament paid an official visit to Gartan National School, Churchill on Friday (25th Jan. 2019).
The school is participating in the Blue Star Programme which aims to foster, through classroom projects and activities, better knowledge and understanding about the European Union.
Among other things it examines the foundation and development of the EU, its cultural and linguistic diversity, what it does and how its work impacts individual lives.
“The school has embraced the programme with impressive enthusiasm,” the MEP said.
“The children asked very incisive questions on all manner of issues to do with the EU, including Brexit.”
The MEP paid tribute to the 16 pupils of Gartan NS for their warm welcome, Blue Star teacher Lorna Boland and all the staff.
