The All Ireland Junior Pike Qualifier fishing competition took place on Mentrim Lake in North Meath on Sunday (7th August) and local MEP Mairead McGuinness was on hand to support the competitors.

Organised by Mentrim & District Anglers and Ardee Pike Anglers, the MEP said it proved to be a great day out.

“It was terrific to see the wonderful resource that is Mentrim Lake being used to such effect with the steeliest of competition among the young competitors,” she said.

The MEP congratulated the competitors and organisers. “Andrew Kryzevicius, chairman of Mentrim & District Anglers deserves credit for his hard work and huge commitment to developing the lake and for organising the events.

“Terry Kane of Ardee Pike Anglers was also very involved in making the afternoon a great success. Ronan O’Brien of the Inland Fisheries was also on hand.

“Congratulations to Leon McShane, winner of the under 8 category and to Conor Halpin, winner of the under 13 category.

“Well done also to Brian Kiernan and Clodagh Kiernan who came second in the under 8 and under 13 categories respectively,” she said.
